Free crochet pattern for a cute snowman

A chubby little snowman

had a carrot nose

Along came a bunny

and what do you suppose?

materials:

  • yarn in white, black, orange and your favorite color
  • crochet hook matching the yarn
  • filling material
  • darning needle
 used abbreviations:

  • mr – magic ring
  • R – round
  • st- stich
  • ch – chain
  • sc – single stich (UK dc – double crochet)
  • sl – slip stitch
  • inc- increase, 2 sc in the same stitch
  • dec – decrease, work 2 stitches together
  • ** – repeat from* to*
  • hdc – half double crochet (UK htr – half treble crochet)
  • dc – double crochet (UK tr – treble crochet)

Crochet in rounds. The thickness of the yarn and crochet hook will determine the size of your snowman. I used a 3 mm crochet hook and yarn for hook 3-4 mm to make a snowman about 8 cm tall.

Snowman:  mr in white

R1: 6 sc (UK dc) in the ring, close the ring with a sc (dc) in the first stitch (6)
R2: *inc* (12)
R3: *sc, inc* (UK*dc, inc*) (18)
R4-6:*sc* (UK *dc*) (18)
R7: *sc, dec* (UK*dc, dec*) (12)
R8: *dec* (6)
R9: *inc* (12)
R10: *sc, inc* (UK*dc, inc*) (18)
R11: *sc, sc, inc* (UK*dc, dc, inc*) (24)
R12-14: *sc* (UK *dc*) (24)

yarn off, cut the thread, bring it all the way through and sew.

Carrot: mr in orange

R1: 6 sc (UK dc) in the ring, close the ring with a sc (dc) in the first stitch (6)
R2-4: dec 2 stiches in each round, finish with a sl
cut the thread not too short, bring it all the way through and pass it with a needle through the carrot to the thick end, do not pull too tight and use it later to mount on the head.

 

Hat: mr in black

R1: 6 sc (UK dc) in the ring, close the ring with a sc (dc) in the first stitch (6)
R2: *inc* (12)
R3: work only back loop, *sc* (UK *dc*) (12)
R4-5 : *sc* (UK *dc*) (12)
R6: work only front loop, 3 ch, 1 dc (UK tr), *2 dc (UK tr) in each st*, finish with a sl in the first dc (UK tr) (24)
yarn off, cut the thread, bring it all the way through and sew.

Stick arms: work 2x, start with 6 ch in black

6 ch, sl in 2. + 3. ch from hook, 3 ch, work sl in 2. ch from hook and then sl til end
cut the thread not too short, bring it all the way through and pass it with a needle through the carrot to the thick end, do not pull too tight and use it later to mount on the body

Scarf: ch in your favorite color

26 ch, hdc (UK htr) in 2. ch from hook and then in each ch til end
yarn off, cut the thread, bring it all the way through and sew. thread some fringes on both ends of the scarf.

 

Mounting:
– embroider the eyes, mouth and buttons with black yarn
– sewing the carrot in the middle of the face
– mount the stick arms at the sides of the lower ball.
– the hat can, but does not have to, be sewn on in place.
